The New Orleans Saints and quarterback Taysom Hill have Wilt Chamberlain Jersey agreed to a one-of-a-kind four-year "hybrid" contract extension worth up to $90M, per reports.According to Adam Schefter, Hill's unique four-year, hybrid-type of contract extension pays depending on the position he plays over the next four seasons. The deal is worth between $40 and $90M with $22.5M guaranteed but is unlike any contract the NFL has ever seen, which is only fitting for a Swi s army knife player that the NFL has never seen.New Orleans Saints GM Mickey Loomis and VP of Football Administration have pulled another rabbit out of their hats with Hill's latest contract. The extension will pay Hill a $40 million base salary for the "Jack of All-Saints" Robert Covington Jersey role he is currently playing. However, an incentive adds another $55 million if Taysom becomes the Saints starting quarterback for the next four seasons.Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill battled this past offseason for the New Orleans Saints starting quarterback job. The QB battle was closer than many expected, with Winston edging out Hill before Week 1 of the season.Winston suffered an ACL injury against Tampa Bay, and the New Orleans Darryl Dawkins Jersey quarterback future is still in question. Hill's extension makes it appear that his name is right back in the mix for next season.Scroll to ContinueTaysom Hill, 31, has started four games at quarterback Sergio Rodriguez Jersey in the NFL, all in the 2020 NFL regular season. In those contests, Hill posted a 3-1 record, including two wins against NFC South opponents.Over his four-year NFL career, Taysom Hill has completed 71.1% of his pa ses for 1,103 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions.Saints News Network will have more on this developing story. For all the latest New Orleans Saints News & Rumors follow:The Saints News Network at www.Si.com/NFL/ SaintsFollow Ben Simmons Jersey Saints News Networks Writer, Brendan Boylan, on Twitter & Instagram at .Continue to follow all Saints coverage on Social Media with Saints News Network at on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
The Bears avoided making an official announcement Monday about Andy Dalton starting but NFL Network reported Justin Fields won't play because of his rib injury. As a result, the Bears face Detroit with Dalton starting at quarterback and it's certainly nothing new for them in a season when disruption has been common."For me, it's kind of been something I've been used to now for the past year and a half," tight end Cole Kmet said. "I've had a lot of rotation at quarterback, so it's just something that you've gotta be able to adapt to and take care of. You've gotta just know when Andy's in, how he's throwing the ball is different than how Justin's throwing it. "There's just things you've gotta keep in mind in those situations and how they get rid of the ball, what they're Colorado Avalanche Jersey looking at and all those types of things. You've just gotta be aware of that and be able to adapt quickly."The timing of plays will be different but the Bears receivers have dealt with this since early in the regular season when they were seeing Fields enter games for a few plays to get his feet wet at times, before Dalton suffered a hyperextended knee. Even after Fields became the starter, Dalton came into a game against the Raiders for three plays when Fields had to go to the sideline after a hard hit, before returning.Dalton has been on the field for 119 plays, including three touchdown pa ses. Fields has taken 500 snaps and thrown four TD pa ses."With Andy, I really havent worked with him since Week 1 and back into camp," Kmet said. "We'll definitely try Blake Comeau Jersey to get some timing stuff in these next couple days, as much as you can. Obviously you gotta balance out the timing stuff and reps with getting your body right for Thursday morning."Dalton was taking first-team snaps in preseason and training camp."So you just gotta know, like I go back to how I was with Andy in camp, and think about that stuff, and then just remember how he releases the ball," Kmet said. "Different arm slots, different sizes, just things like that so you just gotta be ready for that and be ready to adapt."Scroll Carl Soderberg Jersey to ContinueDalton's impact was sudden in Sunday's game when they went 83 yards on two pa s plays for a 7-6 lead."He was great, just the leader that he is and he stepped up for us and he just brings a good poise in the huddle and kind of brought everybody together and became collected," Kmet said. "He just brought a good presence in the huddle."To some, he also brought different Jarome Iginla Jersey plays to the field. There has been a season-long contention that the Bears won't run certain plays for Fields that they run for Dalton and vice versa. This is true to an extent because Dalton isn't running with the ball the way Fields will, but coach Matt Nagy maintains they both get to run most of the same basic plays. The two-play drive was an example of what Nagy said were plays the Bears run plenty of times with both Fields and Dalton. The first play was a short pa s to the left side at the numbers to tight end Jimmy Graham out of three-tight end or 13-personnel."Justin's hit a bunch of play actions out of rhino personnel," Nagy said. "He's done a lot (of) 13 personnel."The second play was a touchdown of 60 yards that Darnell Mooney broke by cutting between two tacklers. It looked like a screen to the wide receivers and offensive coordinator Bill Lazor hasn't called a lot of those plays with Fields lately."That second play was an RPO, it wasn't a screen," Nagy said. "So we have RPOs with Justin, too. So all that stuff that we do is stuff that both those guys do and some conceptually (Fields) might like more or le s but you know both of those guys have done a good job of really being able to continue to grow with that."Here's the beauty of that play of the long touchdown to Mooney was the blocking by the tight ends. That was clinic blocking and the thousands of times that we've run that play in this offense in the last 10 years, that's one of the best ones we've had because of the blocking. So that's the execution was all the players. Teemu Selanne Jersey "
The Bears failed to land a spot on the All-Pro first team, although linebacker Roquan Smith, edge rusher Robert Quinn and return man Jakeem Grant Matthew Dellavedova Jersey did make the second team.It all seems to make sense, although plenty of Bears fans will pout again about Roquan Smith not making the first team. However, making first or second team on the All-Pro team is a huge honor, since it's not broken down into conferences. It's simply the best at the position for the league. The All-Pro team, voted on by the A sociated Pre s, has been named since the 1940s. Other outlets or organizations have All-Pro teams like the Pro Football Writers A sociation or Pro Football Focus, but these are not recognized as the official All-Pro team.Smith made the first team last year, and there will be much debate over whether he was slighted this time with second-team status. While Smith's tackle totals were up this year over last year and he actually set an unofficial team record with 163 total, the impact of his play was down overall from last season. Smith, who was fifth in the league in total tackles, had 12 tackles for lo s after making 18 last season, and had 27 more a sists on tackles than he had last season. Smith also had one le s sack than he had in 2020, when he made four. He finished fourth in solo tackles this season with 85 and was second last year in this category to Avery Williamson with 96.The Mirza Teletovic Jersey 2021 stats all came with 17 games played this year as opposed to 16 last year. The three linebackers named All-Pro were Darius Leonard of the Colts, De'Vondre Campbell of the Packers and Micah Parsons of the Cowboys. Parsons is a rookie who was used more as a pa s rusher and had 13 sacks, although he also had 79 fewer tackles (84) than Smith did. He also had three forced fumbles. Parsons received the highest grade of all linebackers in the NFL this year from Pro Football Focus. Smith was ranked 62nd.Campbell made fewer tackles than Smith, as well. He had 146. But he also had two interceptions, one more than Smith, and forced two fumbles while defending five pa Jason Terry Jersey ses. Smith had two pa s defenses and did not force a fumble.Pittsburgh's T.J. Watt and Cleveland's Myles Garrett made first team as edge rushers ahead of Quinn, who set the Bears record for sacks in a season with 18 1/2.Baltimore's Devin Duvernay made All-Pro first team as punt returner ahead of Grant. Duvernay led the NFL in return average for players who had at least 16 returns on the season, with 13.8 yards per return. Grant had one of only two Jabari Parker Jersey punt return touchdowns this season in the league and averaged 11.9 yards a return.Duvernay and Watt were both unanimous selections to the All-Pro team and there were only five of those total. Wide receivers Cooper Kupp of the Rams and Davante Adams of the Packers and Colts running back Jonathan Taylor were the other ones.All-ProFirst Team OffenseQB Aaron Rodgers, PackersRB Jonathan Taylor, ColtsTE Mark Andrews, RavensWR Davante Adams, PackersWR Cooper Kupp, RamsWR Deebo Samuel, 49ersLT Trent Williams, 49ersRT Tristan Wirfs, BuccaneersLB Joel Bitonio, BrownsRG Zack Martin, CowboysC Jason Kelce, EaglesFirst Team DefenseEDGE T.J. It's the time of the season when players who haven't nece sarily contributed much until this point Michael Hutchinson Jersey are being called upon to step up.Las Vegas Raiders strong safety Johnathan Abram is listed as out for the season with a for Las Vegas' Week 16 game against the Denver Broncos. Abram hadn't mi sed a game yet all season. It is likely that backup Roderic Teamer will be asked to take his place on the field on Sunday. The second-year pro has not made a single start yet this season, as opposed to his rookie season when he made six starts at free safety for the Los Angeles Chargers.Teamer's presence on defense this season was Laurie Boschman Jersey most felt in Weeks 4, 5, and 6.In all three of those games, the safety recorded two solo tackles. In Weeks 5, 11, and 12, he tallied one Mark Stuart Jersey a sisted tackle in each game. Altogether, Teamer has nine combined tackles on the season.Scroll to ContinueTeamer had 40 tackles as a Charger in the 2019 season. The 24-year-old would have big shoes to fill on Sunday if he gets the start. Abram has had 116 combined tackles, four defended pa ses, and an interception so far this season. At his developing rate, Abram could be making Drew Stafford Jersey a Pro Bowl trip within the next few years. If given the start on Sunday, Teamer would have a great opportunity to prove his case as a premiere safety for the Raiders next season. Las Vegas is still making a determined push for a playoff spot, and every player that is to take the field in the coming weeks will have a say in the ultimate outcome.Want to talk about this? Want to air your opinion about all things Las Vegas Raiders? Maybe you like to talk about Bobby Hull Jersey other sports that aren't Silver and Black related? We got your back. Make sure you like our
Free agency is nearly upon us. On March 14, the two-day legal tampering window will begin before the new league year begins and players acro s the entire NFL will Vlade Divac Jersey find new homes. After an unpredictable free agency period last offseason in which the Jaguars didn't target many of the top free agents they were projected to, there is no telling if this year will be different. The operative word in last year's free agency cycle, led by then-head coach Urban Meyer and general manager Trent Baalke, was "value".Will this again be the case with Baalke back at the helm, this time joined by new head coach Doug Pederson?"Are we going to go out and add talent? Yeah, we're going to add talent. We're going to add competition. We're going to bring value to the roster. Every team does that, and we're no exception to that," Pederson said last month when he introduced his coaching staff."But I see talent here. I said I think in my opening remarks a couple weeks ago that it's not an overnight fix, and it's going to be a fix that we've got to do it one player at a time, one coach at a time, and get it turned around."In an effort to identify which free agents make the most sense to potentially be those players Pederson referenced, we are going to go through each position group to determine who the best fits are, ranking them in order.Next up, the inside linebacker position.1) Foyesade OluokunOne of the top defenders hitting free agency this year, Atlanta Falcons linebacker Foyesade Oluokun is a legitimate young defensive building block. Had the Falcons been in a better cap situation, perhaps they would have a better chance of keeping the athletic 26-year-old Yale product. A former sixth-round pick, Kurt Rambis Jersey Oluokun has played both middle and weak side linebacker in Atlanta and has experience wearing the green dot as well.Scroll to ContinueOluokun has been immensely productive the last two seasons, starting 31 games and recording 309 tackles, eight tackles for lo s, five interceptions, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and five sacks. He is a young and ascending player who should only continue to get better and he would give them a legitimate playmaker at middle linebacker.2) De'Vondre CampbellAnother former Falcons linebacker, De'Vondre Campbell will be 29 years old in Week 1 and is fresh off the best season of his Jerry West Jersey career. Campbell should be able to cash in a major deal after the performance he had in 2021 for the Green Bay Packers, starting 16 games and recording 146 tackles, six tackles for lo s, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two sacks in an All-Pro year.Campbell has a few more seasons of starting experience under his belt than Oluokun and is a more established presence at linebacker, but it will be interesting to see where he looks to go after playing for a contender in 2021. He would be an impact starter at middle linebacker and greatly improve the run defense in the event he could be signed, however.3) Alexander JohnsonWhile the first two names on this list are athletic off-ball linebackers who can make plays in coverage and sideline-to-sideline, Alexander Johnson is more of a stereotypical middle linebacker. Johnson, 30, is a downhill presence who can make an impact as a blitzer, similar to Damien Wilson from 2021. Johnson is arguably more of a playmaker than Wilson at this stage of their careers, so he could offer slightly more upside.Johnson has started 34 games for the Broncos over the last three seasons, recording 249 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 11 tackles for lo s, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one interception. He wouldn't be a complete three-down linebacker who could improve the team's middle of the field pa s defense, but he would offer some considerable reinforcement to the team's run defense.4) Kyzir WhiteE sentially the complete opposite of Johnson, Kyzir White is a pure coverage linebacker who could make sense in Mike Caldwell's scheme considering the impact his Tampa Bay linebackers made in terms of pa s coverage. White, a former fourth-round pick who will be 26 years old in Week 1, is coming off the best year of his career and could continue to trend upward. Larry Nance Jersey White started 17 games for the Chargers last season, recording 144 tackles, seven tackles for lo s, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and one sack during his first year as a full-time starter. He wouldn't do much to help the team's run defense and may be too similar to Myles Jack in terms of skill set, but he is a legit coverage linebacker who makes sense from a scheme perspective.5) Leighton Vander EschA former first-round pick with middle linebacker experience, Leighton Vander Esch's tenure with the Cowboys flamed out after a hot start. A Pro Robert Horry Jersey Bowler as a rookie, injuries forced Vander Esch to mi s 13 games from 2019-2020, but he bounced back in terms of durability last season. Can he continue to stay healthy and once again become the playmaker he was as a rookie?Starting in 16 games last season, Vander Esch still played a career-low 58% of the snaps as he was phased out of the Cowboys' plans. He is one of the few free agents this year who has played at a high level at middle linebacker in the past, however, so he deserves some consideration.
The Tampa Boyd Gordon Jersey Bay Buccaneers are releasing cornerback Rashard Robinson on Saturday in order to create a roster spot, presumably to activate a player from the injured reserve, to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.Tampa Bay is hopeful that running backs Leonard Fournette and Giovani Bernard, as well as linebacker Lavonte David, will be able to return to play on Jari Kurri Jersey Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round of the 2021-22 playoffs. After signing with the Bucs practice squad in September, Robinson was quickly elevated to the active roster on a full-time basis to contribute Connor McDavid Jersey on special teams and offer secondary depth.Scroll to ContinueAppearing in seven games, mi sing some time due to injuries in the middle of the season, Robinson compiled four tackles during his Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Jersey tenure with the Buccaneers.Fournette, Bernard, David and several other injured Buccaneers are expected to be game-time decisions before kickoff on Sunday.Considering Robinsons release, it would appear Tampa Bay is confident that injured cornerbacks Carlton Davis, Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel Dean will be able to play in the Wild Card Round. Mark Letestu Jersey Davis and Murphy-Bunting were listed as questionable on Friday.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are 1-5 and looking for their second win in a row. Standing in their way is a west coast trip that has never been kind to the franchise, as well as a reeling Seattle team that is perhaps even more desperate for a win than the Jaguars are.So, who has the edge between the Jaguars and Seattle entering Week 8's road game? From the pa sing game to the defense, the Jaguar Report staff breaks it all down below.1) Will the Jaguars actually get pre sure on Geno Smith or do the pa s rush i sues continue? I think this Mateen Cleaves Jersey week is a week the Jaguars' pa s-rush actually improves. Even if the Seahawks enter Sunday with their starting unit, they will still be starting two linemen who have been on the injury report this week in Duane Brown and Damien Lewis. It already isn't a great line to begin with, so I like Josh Allen and Dawuane Smoot in this matchup, even if it doesn't end in high sack totals. The pa s rush i sues continue. Geno Smith has struggled under pre sure recently, but he should at least expect to be le s hurried against Jacksonville after tough matchups versus Pittsburgh and New Orleans the past two weeks. I think hell have enough time to find Seattles weapons early and often on Sunday. The pa s rush i sues will continue. I believe the Seahawks will help protect Geno Smith with quick throws and not allow pre sure to really get to him. Unfortunately, that plus Smiths ability to move around and extend plays with his legs will prove difficult for the Jaguars poor pa s rush to bring Stanley Johnson Jersey him down. Josh Allen and company have improved over the last few weeks and pre sured Tua Tagaviloa two weeks ago in London, but ultimately I dont believe Smith will be put in the same situations as Tua. This is sort of a question of how much pre sure, rather than if because the weakne s of the Seattle Seahawks offense is at the two position groups that matter the most when discu sing it: the offensive line and quarterback. With Geno Smith at the helm, the Jaguars ought to be able to get much more pre sure than in weeks prior. Smith has the tendency to hold onto the football, giving the pa s rush an easier time. Now, that doesnt mean the Jaguars will suddenly look like the Purple People Eaters, but they should look far more competent on Sunday.2) Who is more likely to make an impact: Laviska Shenault or Jamal Agnew? My gut says Shenault, though I do think Agnew in the middle of the offense will play a ma sive role. I just feel like Shenault is due for a big game, especially against a team like the Seahawks that has struggled at cornerback and resorted to rotating Sidney Jones and Tre Brown, each of whom has had their own i sues at times. Shenault is too big and too strong for the Seahawks' secondary, and the Jaguars will continue to feed Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Jersey him the ball as they try to create big plays for Lawrence. It really looks like Agnew is starting to earn a serious, full-time role in the Jaguars offense: Urban Meyer called Agnew the teams best separator and Darrell Bevell said Now he's one of our 3 guys, he's one of our main guys. I think this could be an Agnew breakout game as Shenault continues to struggle as a perimeter receiver. Right now the answer has to be Agnew. He has become a big part of the offense since DJ Chark went down. Shenault just hasnt gotten going the way we all thought he would while Agnew continues to see an increase in his role offensively each week. His performance against Miami was fantastic for this offense and he has the hot hand right now in the slot for the Jaguars. Who would have thought heading into the season that wed even put Agnew in the same position group as Shenault? Entering the year, Agnew was a receiver by designation only. He was signed to return kicks, and hes proven to be one of the best in the league in doing so. Hes been their most productive free-agent signee thus far. However, hes quickly transitioned into one of their best receivers as far as separation, catching and play-making ability. For Shenault, hes still learning how to play the outside receiver spot, catching pa ses downfield. For that reason, Im going to go with Agnew here, in a surprising upset. 3) Do the Jaguars have a path to stopping the Seahawks' WR duo? No, largely because the Jaguars are entering Sunday with just one cornerback they can depend on from a snap-to-snap basis. I actually think Shaquill Griffin could match up well with D.K. Metcalf, but Tyler Lockett is a bad matchup for Tyson Campbell, Tre Herndon, and Nevin Lawson. Ultimately the Jaguars can match up with one of the Seahawks' dangerous wideouts, but nothing we have seen this season suggests that they can contain the other one; it will just be up to Smith to get the ball to them.Scroll to Continue I dont think so, mostly because I expect Tyler Lockett to have a ma sive day against Jaguars cornerbacks not named Shaquill Griffin. The former Seahawk will likely matchup on D.K. Metcalf for the most part, which will leave Lockett to feast on the scraps of Jacksonvilles secondary. The defenses only hope of stopping the duo is to apply constant pre sure to Geno Smith to make him uncomfortable, but the pa s rush has yet to prove this season that it can make a significant impact. If DK Metcalf cannot go Christian Laettner Jersey then yes they do. He did not practice on Wednesday although he is most likely going to play. Unfortunately, this secondary has had its fair share of trouble locking down receivers. The return of Tyson Campbell will help and Shaquil Griffin will be looking to have a big impact against his former team, but its an uphill battle against arguably the best receiving duo in the league even without their pro bowl quarterback. The key for the Jaguars secondary against Metcalf and Tyler Lockett will be just limiting the big plays. Technically the team could just double cover both receivers and try to isolate the tight end and running backs with linebackers, but that just doesnt make sense, so theres not really a path to stop both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. The Jaguars will have to just hope to slow them down, which they can do by being creative. With Tyson Campbell returning this week and Shaq Griffin playing at a high level, I dont expect Seattle to simply pa s all over Jacksonville, but, no they wont stop them, not even close. 4) Jamal Adams vs. Trevor Lawrence will be a che s match. Who has the advantage? I think the biggest i sues Adams will give Lawrence is pre-snap, which is an area Lawrence has thrived in over the last three games. Adams is given a wide-ranging role that allows him to e sentially play all over the field and disguise his intents along the way, making it key for Lawrence to be able to identify him before the ball is Terry Mills Jersey snapped. Give me an even battle here, with Lawrence having the advantage pa sing the ball due to Adams' coverage i sues, while Adams will be a persistent threat to forcing a Lawrence turnover behind the line
It has been 17 days since that fateful day in Jacksonville, where the Indianapolis Colts completed a collapse of epic proportions.Falling to the Jaguars that day left the Colts out of the playoff field after having a 98% chance just two weeks prior. If you think the Colts have gotten over that lo s, just look at owner Jim Irsays tweets. Its safe to say it still isnt sitting well over at West 56th Street.Much of the conversation since the season ended has surrounded quarterback Carson Wentz. Wentz went 322-of-516 (62.4%) for 3,563 yards with 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions on the season. While his numbers arent fantastic, he ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in terms of touchdowns and tied a career-best in interceptions. However, there were many times this season that when the game was on the line, Wentz could not deliver and give the Colts the victory. Indy was 2-5 in one-po se sion games in 2021, which isnt good enough for where this team wants to go. The inconsistency from Wentz certainly played a role in this.Last week on Wentzday, we talked about the good from Wentz during the 2021 season. This week we will take a look at the bad and the main reasons why its still undecided whether he will be QB1 for the Colts in 2022.Coming into the 2021 season, Alex Stalock Jersey there were already questions about Wentzs mechanics. They had fallen off a cliff at the end of his time in Philadelphia, and many wondered if he could improve. While his mechanics looked much better at the beginning of the season, it seemed like he fell back into old habits as the season went along. This was especially evident when under pre sure. The first clip is the mi ses Wentz had throughout the game against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16. When you watch the throws, you can see Wentz rushing his throws and not getting his feet set correctly, leading to off-target throws. This was also prevalent against the Jaguars in Week 18. Once again, Wentz rushes many of these throws and does not get his feet pointed where they need to be, leading to mi ses all around the field. The pocket is not always going to be clean, and Wentz will need to be able to deliver good balls under dure s.Wentzs mechanics were always a concern coming in, and after seeing them deteriorate throughout Christian Folin Jersey the season, its fair to question whether they can improve enough to be a consistent quarterback in this league.Wentz also had trouble holding on to the ball too long throughout the season. This was a stark contrast to Philip Rivers last season, who got rid of the ball at one of the quickest rates in the NFL. Per NFL Next Gen Stats, Wentzs average time to throw was 2.83 seconds in 2021, tied for 25th in the league. Rivers posted an average time to throw of 2.52 seconds in 2020, sixth in the league. While three-tenths of a second may not seem like a long time, it can be the difference between a dump-off for a gain and a sack for a lo s. A perfect example of this was against the Tenne see Titans in Week 3. On both of these sacks, Wentz has an open receiver on the cro ser and doesnt look their way. He holds onto the Mikko Koivu Jersey ball and takes the sack each time. This was also a problem against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12. The Bucs tried to bring pre sure on Wentz to make him throw the ball before he wanted to and make quick decisions. Numerous sack fumbles did not help Wentz this year either and cost the Colts dearly at times.Holding on to the ball too long and not reading defenses quick enough got Wentz into a lot of trouble this year. He consistently mi sed his check-downs and didnt take the easy ones. Colts general manager Chris Ballard told Wentz after the season to make the layups, and its something he must do a much better job at moving forward.Scroll to ContinueThe hero ball mentality that Wentz has can be a ble sing and a curse. It can lead to miraculous plays or plays that end in tragedy. It was always going to be a fine line for the Colts quarterback, but unfortunately. the tragic end of the spectrum reared its ugly head way too often. The play that sticks out in everyones mind is the ugly pick-six against the Titans in Week 8. The score was tied, and the Colts had a chance to win the game at the end. Devan Dubnyk Jersey Instead of throwing the ball away, Wentz tries to throw it left-handed as hes being brought down, and its returned for a touchdown. This play against the San Francisco 49ers during Week 7 was much of the same. Deep in the red zone, Wentz tries to do too much with the ball and gets it poked out of his hands in very wet conditions. While the Colts won the game, this could have been a huge turning point in the game for the 49ers.Wentz believes that he can make something happen on every play and that is a big reason why he gets into trouble. Its okay to throw the ball away and live for the next down. Otherwise, plays like this interception against the New England Patriots in Week 15 happen and shift the entire momentum of the game. While Carson Wentz did plenty of good for the Colts this year, there were plenty of bad moments as well. From his inconsistencies with his mechanics, to holding the ball too long, to the bone-headed plays that made you want to pull your hair out, Wentz was far too inconsistent this season and cost his team in big spots. This quote from Ballard at his season-ending pre s conference really sticks out when talking about the Colts quarterback position.Youve got to get stability at the quarterback position, Ballard said. And that position has to play up to his potential to help the team win. Dont get me wrong, I aint blaming all of this on Carson. Im not. Because everybody else has to do their jobs too. But the hyper-importance of that position, its real. You have to get consistency there. The years weve gotten it, have been pretty good, and we thought we had it until the end of the season. With Wentz as the quarterback, you have to wonder if consistency can ever be achieved. His play this year showed how volatile Minnesota Wild Jersey the quarterback can be, as it seems like each week can be a different version of Wentz. The Colts arent looking for volatility. They want a steady quarterback who can produce week in and week out and pull the team to victory when called upon.Has Carson Wentz played his last snap with the Colts? That remains to be seen. However, its no secret that the Colts need, and are demanding, more out of the quarterback position as they look to join the elites of the AFC.Previous Entries

Jelani Woods | TE | VirginiaWoods helped himself and should find himself a top-10 tight end that hears his name called pretty early on day three of the draft. 40-Yard Dash: FallersJack Coan | QB | Notre DameCoan came in with a 4.9, and some expected a little bit faster. David Bell | WR | PurdueBell was moving down the order before the Justin Braun Jersey combine, and he did nothing to help himself. His 4.65 was below expectations and just part of a terrible day for his draft stock. Makai Polk | WR | OregonPolk is tall and decently built, hoping he would have a good time, but just under 4.6 with a 4.59 wasn't good enough. Slade Bolden | WR | AlabamaA fast time wasn't expected for Bolden, and a 4.66 is still solid, but his tape suggests somewhere in the 4.5 times, and he ended up being the slowest receiver. Austin Allen | TE | NebraskaFor tight ends, the time to beat is 4.7, and it was believed Allen would be near that mark. Instead, he came in with a 4.83, well below the standard. Jake Ferguson | TE | WisconsinFerguson was in the same situation and barely posted faster with a 4.81, and expectations were higher than that. Vertical/Broad Jumps: RisersDesmond Ridder | QB | CincinnatiRidder was the best quarterback with both jumps as he posted a 36-inch vertical and a 10-foot-7-inch broad jump as part of a great day. E.J. Perry | QB | BrownPerry wasn' Chris Tierney Jersey t far behind Ridder with how he jumped with a 34.5-inch vertical and a 10-foot-3-inch broad jump. Christian Watson | WR | North Dakota StateWatson jumped out of the building with an 11-foot-4-inch broad jump and put up a remarkable 38.5-inch vertical as well. Calvin Austin III | WR | MemphisAustin measured at 5-foot-8 tall and broad jumped 11-foot-3 and a 39-inch vertical. That is ridiculous for his size. Alec Pierce | WR | CincinnatiPeirce broke 40 inches with his vertical by getting to 40.5, and his 10-foot-9-inch broad jump was also good. Isaiah Weston | WR | Northern IowaWeston has one of the better days as a jumper with the second-best vertical of 40 inches and tied second-best broad jump at 11-foot-3. Vertical/Broad Jumps: FallersKaleb Eleby | QB | Western MichiganWith the vertical jump, there wasn't much from Eleby, who barely broke 25 inches, and his broad jump was the second-worst of the group. There was hope he would test a lot better athletically than he did. Bailey Zappe | QB | Western KentuckyZappe was the worst with the broad jump at 9-foot-1 and had the third-worst vertical jump. This Joonas Donskoi Jersey isn't a major surprise as he wasn't expected to test well, but this was worse than expected. Tre Turner | WR | Virginia TechWhile explosion isn't his strong suit, Turner showed a worse explosion in both jumps than you'd think he had when watching his tape. Reggie Roberson Jr | WR | SMURobinson has dealt with multiple knee injuries already, and with his poor explosion testing, one wonders how much those knee injuries affected him. Wan'Dale Robinson | WR | KentuckyWhile Robinson had a fine 34.5-inch vertical, his broad jump of 9-foot-10 was le s than expected and doesn't match the tape. David Bell | WR | PurdueNot much to say. Bell had a bad day all-around and was near the bottom for both jumps. Biggest Risers OverallRisers:Malik Willis | QB | LibertyWhile Willis didn't do the athletic testing, he did throw and was easily the most impre sive quarterback of the bunch. Desmond Ridder | QB | CincinnatiRidder had a great day with the athletic testing and measurements, but his fieldwork was hit or mi s, mainly due to his placement. However, he has the tools that are going to attract multiple teams. Calvin Austin III | WR | MemphisEasily Joel Ward Jersey one of the biggest winners once the prospects took the field. Austin was consistently at the top for athletic testing and put on a good showing during drills. Skyy Moore | WR | Western MichiganMoore likely cemented himself as a top 64 pick in the NFL draft with good measurements, remarkable testing, and good fieldwork. There are plenty of comparisons to Elijah Moore out of Ole Mi s last year, who went 34th overall to the New York Jets. Jelani Woods | TE | VirginiaWoods was viewed as a borderline top-10 tight end before the Combine, but he tested well enough and did enough with the drills to put himself firmly in the top-10 at tight end. Chig Okonkwo | TE | MarylandOkonkwo is a raw tight end, and he showed he has the athleticism, but his drill work showed some reasonable foundation in technique, which likely moved him up some boards. Biggest Overall FallersMatt Corral | QB | Mi si sippiCorral couldn't do anything due to his injury, and it is putting him behind the rest of the other quarterbacks. Carson Strong | QB | NevadaStrong didn't do the athletic testing but did some drill work, and while he showed a strong arm, his placement was hit or mi s. David Bell | WR | Michigan StateBell probably had the worst showing of anyone at the
Kevin O'Connell still has a Super Bowl to prepare for with the Rams, but he's simultaneously starting to put his Vikings coaching staff together. The first reported addition to the staff is Curtis Modkins, who is expected to be hired as Minnesota's running backs coach and run game coordinator, according to multiple reports.Modkins Troy Tulowitzki Jersey has been with the Broncos as their running backs coach for the past four seasons.Modkins will replace Kennedy Polamalu as the Vikings' RBs coach. Polamalu had been in that role for the past five years. Rick Dennison was Randal Grichuk Jersey the Vikings' run-game coordinator in 2019 and 2020, but was moved to a "senior offensive advisor" role last season due to his refusal to get vaccinated.Modkins comes to Minnesota with a strong track record. The Broncos had a pair of 900-yard rushers last season in Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon, who combined for over 2,300 yards from scrimmage and 17 total touchdowns. Gordon, Phillip Lindsay, and Royce Freeman all had succe s in Denver under Modkins' coaching.Scroll to ContinueIn 2017, Modkins worked with Jordan Howard and Curtis Granderson Jersey Tarik Cohen as the Bears' RBs coach. He was the 49ers' offensive coordinator in 2016, which likely played a role in this move. O'Connell was on San Francisco's offensive coaching staff that year, while Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah worked in analytics. Before that, Modkins was a RBs coach with the Chiefs (200, Cardinals (2009), and Lions (2013-15), and was the Bills' offensive coordinator from 2010-12.The 51-year-old Texas Jesse Barfield Jersey native hasbeen around a bunch of different running backs, coaches, and offensive schemes during his 14 years in the NFL.In Minnesota, Modkins will take over a talented room featuring one of the game's elite RBs in Dalvin Cook and excellent depth with Alexander Mattison and Kene Nwangwu. He'll work closely with that position while also playing an important role in game-planning, play design, and installs as the run-game coordinator. The Vikings still need an offensive coordinator and could add a pa sing-game coordinator as well.Modkins was a standout running back for TCU in the early 1990s and coached at the college level (TCU, New Mexico, Jaime Garcia Jersey and Georgia Tech) from 1995 to 2007.
Luiji Vilain is a former four-star recruit that was born in Ottawa, Ontario in Canada. He enrolled at a boarding school in Alexandria, Virginia, and played football at Episcopal High School. I asked Vilain about that transition in moving from his home in Canada to play football in Virginia:Basically, one of my coaches back home in Canada had a good relationship with my high school coach in Virginia. They basically started a pipeline of Canadians going to that school. The fact that it was boarding really helped the entire proce s come together.Vilain had an outstanding high school career and ended up committing to Michigan. He struggled with injuries and playing time in his four years at the school, totaling just one sack in two years of playing time. As a grad student, he decided to transfer to Wake Forest to finish off his college career. I asked Vilain why he chose the Demon Deacons and what that adjustment was like for him:I built a great relationship with the Defensive Line Coach over there, Coach Dave Cohen. I saw what they did with guys like Boogie Basham and Duke Ejiofor and I saw myself as playing that top pa s rusher Tom Seaver Jersey role for them. At first, I had to get used to playing so much all over again. I just took it day by day and tried to make every snap count with these guys. It ended up working out for me. Vilain had a breakout season with the Demon Deacons. He finished his final year of college with 34 tackles, nine tackles for a lo s, eight sacks, and two forced fumbles. I asked him about the proce s of being a transfer player and how he was able to build chemistry and trust with his teammates so quickly:I knew coming in that I was going to have to compete, and I was able to step up and earn some playing time. I was able to earn the trust of my coaches early on New York Mets Custom Jersey with how I worked in the offseason. One of my biggest thoughts and concerns going to Wake was gaining the trust of my teammates. Honestly, the guys there did a great job. They welcomed me as if I was there for all four or five years. I love my teammates over there and they made me feel welcomed from day one. As a former four-star recruit that committed to Michigan, it is easy to tell that Vilain is a freaky athlete. He has an excellent blend of size and speed that puts pre sure on opposing offensive tackles. I asked him how he uses these natural gifts to attack tackles in the pa s game:My athleticism certainly has a lot to do with my pa s rush plan. The biggest thing for me is just making every rush look the same and working my moves off of that from the beginning. The main focus on my pa s rush is doing that and just taking what the offensive line gives me in order to create pre sure.A fascinating aspect of pa s rushing for a young defensive end is the adjustment from high school to college. In high school, a lot of these guys can win with pure power and speed. In college, there has to be more nuance to beat these elite tackles. I asked Vilain about the transformation of his game from the high school level to the college level:Scroll to ContinueYou really have to work on your craft and work on your toolbox in college. At this level, these tackles are just as good as you. They got recruited to play at this level as well. You really have to refine your rush in college and you can't just rely on pure athleticism to win. You have to be well versed as a pa s rusher and ready to go. As you all can tell Nolan Ryan Jersey from my last few interview pieces, I am always eager to talk film with these players. Most people may not understand how or why film study is so important for an edge player prior to each and every match-up. I asked Vilain what he looks for when studying a particular match-up at offensive tackle during the week:I'm mostly looking at how he sets. Is he high in his pa s set? Is he a leaner? Does he shoot his hands high on contact or shoot them low? Things like that are just some of what I look at. These little details are so important to help me in my rush plan. With this information, I decided to quiz Vilain a little bit. I asked him how he would combat an offensive tackle when they use an angle set Keon Broxton Jersey or a jump set to quickly get on him. I asked him about his proce s when this happens and how he would counter this type of set from the tackle:This actually goes into what I said earlier about making my rushes look the same every time. I'm going to start off my rush the same way, regardle s. If he jumps me and is a little bit outside of me, I'm going to work inside. If he jumps me and we are basically face to face, I'm going to go power. In general though, if he jumps me, I'm either going to go power or try to counter to the inside. While Vilain is a 23 year old in this upcoming draft, he has only one real year of starting experience in college. With that, he is e sentially much younger and more raw than his age would suggest. I asked him if he believes that, with all of this taken into account, his best football is ahead of him:I definitely agree and I tell people this all the time. My first two years at Michigan, I was injured. In my final two years, I didn't really get to play or Edwin Diaz Jersey have a chance to develop the way that I wanted to. With this past year being the first one where I've been able to play and develop, I feel like I have so much more football ahead of me. Just put me around a group of NFL guys and some good vets and my ceiling is very very high.Vilain is one of the more intriguing players in this cla s. He has the talent to be a productive NFL player, he just needs proper development and training at the next level. If a team is willing to take the time with him, it could pay off in a big way.
HOUSTON - Tyrod Taylor allowed the dreaded thought to briefly cro s his mind, Houston Astros Jersey the natural not again moment simply because of what has transpired in the past.A year ago, the Houston Texans veteran quarterback was supplanted by Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert when Taylor suffered a rib injury and a team doctor accidentally punctured his lung with a pain-killing injection. Taylor never regained his starting job as Herbert emerged as the AFC Offensive Rookie of the Year. A similar scenario happened with the Cleveland Browns when Taylor suffered a concu sion and top overall pick Baker Mayfield replaced him.Unlike those past situations, though, Taylor had the strong support of Texans coach David Culley and the entire organization when he suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain while running for a touchdown against the Browns in the second game of the season. Now, Taylor is the 1-7 Texans starting quarterback again heading into Sundays road game against the Miami Dolphins as he tries to end a seven-game losing streak. The Texans were 1-0 with Taylor under center and were leading the Browns at halftime when he had to leave the game. Now, Taylor is the Texans QB1 again as he replaces rookie quarterback Davis Mills after the third-round draft pick from Stanford went 0-6 as the starter.\Thats the initial thought when it happened, maybe in Cleveland, but that thought hasnt nece sarily resonated since then, Taylor said. Yeah, it was unfortunate that it happened, but at the time, I cant control Evan Gattis Jersey it. Have to shift your mindset to getting back healthy and doing the things day in and day out so you stay on track so I can get back out and perform at a high level and do what I needed to do to help our team win and put us in winning situations.Im thankful for the opportunity. Im always thankful for the opportunity when I get a chance to lace up my cleats and compete, do what I love to do, what Ive always done. Obviously, I was looking forward to coming back. Coach said early on that I would be the starter when healthy, and Im thankful that he stood by that. Im excited to lead the guys out this weekend, and excited to get back on the playing field and just compete.Taylor will be officially activated from injured reserve-designated for return after launching his 21-day practice window last week.A former Pro Bowl selection with the Buffalo Bills, Taylor is 4-2 all-time in starts against Miami Dolphins with 10 touchdowns, no interceptions, 112.2 pa ser rating, 72.8 completion percentageThats important but the thing is he was our starting quarterback and he got hurt, Culley said. Hes back healthy now and hes starting. The fact that hes been our leader going into the year, will that help us? I hope so. Well see.Any time you lose your starting quarterback, it becomes a setback. Hes a starting quarterback for a reason. We lost our leader, we Nolan Ryan Jersey lost a guy that this football team believed in. He was actually doing his job to that point, of what we expect our quarterback to do.Called a breath of fresh air by safety Justin Reid and someone who provides electricity, to the huddle, Taylor plays the game with a smooth, multidimensional style. Hes an accurate pa ser who has the mobility and elusivene s to make plays off script and improvise.Taylor hasnt had any setbacks with the hamstring, regaining his flexibility and explosivene s."Hamstrings are tricky," Taylor said. "Typically, you feel good mentally before you actually feel better physically. So, you try to test it, you do as much as you can, but at the same time, you also have to listen to your body. You don't want to put yourself at a bigger risk coming back too early."The Texans' only victory of the season was when Taylor was under center in the season-opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Since Taylor got hurt while running away from Myles Garrett for a touchdown run against the Browns to produce a halftime lead, the Texans have lost seven consecutive games and are 0-6 with Mills, a third-round draft pick from Stanford.Taylor completed 10 of 11 pa ses for 125 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions for a 144.3 pa ser rating before having to leave the Browns game at halftime after hurting while running for a touchdown with defensive end Myles Garrett swiping at his left leg. Taylor completed 70.5 percent of his throws for 416 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions for a career-high 122.9 pa ser rating before the injury. Its huge, veteran running back Rex Burkhead said of Taylors return. Hes definitely a leader of this team, has done great things in this league for a while now. Just having his presence out there in practice, his command in the huddle, and just overall on the plays, its great.Ive always been a big fan of his from afar throughout the league. Just loved his consistency hes always played with. Hes just a great leader, great quarterback, very humble guy, and a pleasure to go to work with every day.Scroll to ContinueOn the touchdown, Taylor knew it was bad right away.Yeah, I knew when I got around the corner, if you Dallas Keuchel Jersey watch that play closely, and Ive watched it a number of times, you can actually see my left leg like I dont want to put too much pre sure on it, he said. The touchdown celebration, Im not a guy to celebrate but it was kind of weird. A lot of people didnt understand it, but I knew I was injured at the time. Tried to jog of the field, was still in pain. Didnt nece sarily know what it was, just knew Mike Scott Jersey something wasnt right with the hamstring. Went back on for the two-minute drive, got flushed out of the pocket one time and tried to accelerate and thats when I tried to get to the halftime and see what the doctor said. Obviously, I didnt want to come out. Coach made the decision, but it was best before I go out there and injure it more.Mills was sacked a season-high five times, including 1 1/2 times by Aaron Donald, a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and twice by Leonard Floyd and hit nine times overall during a 38-22 defeat Sunday at NRG Stadium as the Texans lost their seventh consecutive game.Mills rallied the Texans a bit while orchestrating a hurry-up offense in the fourth quarter with the game already out of reach and the Rams having already pulled starting quarterback Matthew Stafford after three quarters while holding a commanding 38-0 lead. It wasnt nearly enough, though, despite Mills completing 29 of 38 pa ses for 310 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for a 106.3 pa ser rating.Mills has pa sed for 1,357 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions for an 80.2 pa ser rating. Hes been sacked 20 times. Its been invaluable experience for him, Culley said. Hes grown from it. Hes going to be better for it. Its going to help him in his future having gone through what hes gone t
CINCINNATI The Bengals are hoping to sweep the Steelers for the Andrew Triggs Jersey first time in 12 years on Sunday. There will be one key difference between the team Cincinnati beat in Week 3 and Pittsburgh's defense this week.Star defensive end T.J. Watt is expected to be back in the lineup."They didnt have T.J. Watt, youve always got to be aware of him. Itll be a different game," Joe Burrow said earlier this Rollie Fingers Jersey week. "Understanding what youre looking at and where you have to go with the ball depending on the defensive look. If youre confused, youre not going to get the ball out on time. It comes with preparation and in this division, every team has every single week Terry Steinbach Jersey were talking about pa s rushers. In this division, youve got to get the ball out quickly to have a chance."Watt is dealing with hip and knee injuries. He has 12.5 sacks and 29 tackles in eight games this season.Star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick will also play for the Steelers. He was activated from the COVID-19 Reserve list on Thursday. This Bengals' offense has topped the 30-point mark in Santiago Casilla Jersey four of their last five games. That bet could be worth $1 million to him.Scroll Joe Kelly Jersey to ContinueThe bad news for Titans fans is that McIlvane is on something of . There was some movement Ron Santo Jersey in the coaching carousel around the NFL on Thursday, but the Miami Dolphins apparently continued their slow trek toward finding a replacement for Brian Flores. While the Denver Broncos reportedly hired Nathaniel Hackett as their new head coach and the Chicago Bears decided to go with Matt Eberflus, and the New York Giants conducted an interview with the aforementioned Flores on this day, the Dolphins reportedly will wait until Monday to start conducting second interviews. Those second interviews are expected to involve three offensive a sistants from around the NFL: Brian Daboll, Mike McDaniel and Kellen Moore. Those three were among the seven candidates identified as having interviewed with the Dolphins unlike most teams, they have not publicly announced any interviews last week. The other four were defensive a sistants Dan Quinn, Leslie Frazier and Vance Joseph, along with Rams a sistant head coach Thomas Brown.Multiple reports indicated that Quinn, who also interviewed for the head-coaching openings in Chicago and Denver, informed teams Thursday that he would remain as Cowboys offensive coordinator for the 2022 season.Joseph not being mentioned among the Dolphins candidates getting a second interviewed certainly is interesting because he was mentioned this week as a strong po sibility, particularly if Daboll ends up becoming head coach of the New York Giants. Carlos Zambrano Jersey Daboll had a second interview with New York this week before the Giants also interviewed defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and Flores.Daboll is considered among the leading candidates for the Giants, so it's entirely po sible the Dolphins could lose out on the po sibility of giving him a second interview if New York hires him this weekend.Scroll to ContinueThe other interesting development Thursday Jason Heyward Jersey was a report from NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe suggesting the Dolphins would prefer keeping their defensive coaching staff intact. The logic certainly makes sense considering how well the defense playing in the second half of the season, though the question needs to be asked about how much of an impact Flores had on the scheme and weekly game plans.Asking a head coach to keep certain a sistants on board also sometimes can be a detriment to attracting candidates, though a first-time head coach might be le s inclined to make an i sue of it.The Dolphins defensive coaching staff in 2021 consisted of coordinator Josh Boyer, D-line coach Kerry Wood Jersey Austin Clark, linebackers coach Anthony Campanile, DB coach Gerald Alexander, CB Charles Burks, OLB coach Rob Leonard, a sistant DB coach Curt Kuntz and a sistant D-line coach Shawn Flaherty.Because of the way the Dolphins have conducted this search, we can't rule out the po sibility of another candidate being in the running.Three names that certainly would make sense on a certain level are Jim Caldwell, Doug Pederson and Jim Harbaugh, though there have been no reports of any of them having an interview with the Dolphins. If the Dolphins indeed are looking for an offensive mind to work with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, all three of them would make sense, though one would wonder whether any of them would be comfortable with being told they'd have to retain the defensive coaches. The 2022 Senior Bowl will take place next Saturday, Feb. 5 in Mobile, Alabama, but the week of practice is probably more Jon Lester Jersey important than the game itself and teams traditionally like to have their coaching staff in place before heading there. The schedule made the report about the Dolphins conducting second interviews early next week even more eye-opening, and one would think things wouldn't drag on very much once those second interviews take place. On the flip side, the Dolphins did not have their new coaching staff in place when they made their last coaching change because Flores wasn't hired until the day after Super Bowl LIII.
