The scope of SD-WAN is to provide a software-defined approach to managing the WAN, which can reduce costs, improve performance, optimize user experience, and simplify operations. SD-WAN can work with different types of WAN connections, such as MPLS, broadband, fiber, wireless, or LTE, and create a virtual overlay that abstracts the underlying network. SD-WAN can also identify applications and provide intelligent application-aware routing across the WAN, based on business intent and QoS policies. SD-WAN can be deployed as an overlay or as a managed service, depending on the customer's needs and preferences.
