Malta Freeport Terminals has ordered 15 RTGs gantry crane from Konecranes, as part of an ongoing expansion.

Located at Birzebbugga on the south-east coast of Malta, the port is one of the busiest in Europe, having grown in recent years to become the Mediterranean’s third-largest trans-shipment port.

The first cranes from Konecranes will be delivered at the end of the year, with the remainder arriving in early 2019.

The ordered cranes include features such as auto-steering, stack collision reporting, and auto-TOS reporting. They will stack one-over-six containers high, and six rows plus truck lane wide.

Antti Halonen, sales manager EMEA at Konecranes Port Solutions, said: “Malta Freeport has been an important customer for Konecranes since 2005. We are happy to be a part of the story of its growth and success. The new RTGs will help Malta Freeport to provide its shipping line customers with greater container handling capacity and reliability.”
