A note on a spontaneous trip to Sicily

Almost on the last day in Sicily, we were surprised to learn that Etna is not quite a dormant volcano. One late evening, we saw a bright scarlet spot appear on the top of the mountain silhouette, and after 10 seconds it went out. The first thought was that something was wrong, but the situation was repeated every 20-30 minutes. As it turned out, the volcano “breathes” in this way. This color of red-hot lava against the background of a black sky will remain in my memory for a long time.

About the beaches and restaurants of Catania

In Catania, there are no beaches in the usual view. The city beach of Catania is a small lagoon with black volcanic stones and a narrow passage to the sea. Local residents have adapted and quite comfortably settle down between the boulders with whole families.

If you live in apartments or have an early rise, then go to the Catania fish market - it is located next to the central square. Fresh fish and seafood of all kinds and sizes are sold here every morning. It is impossible to pass by the most popular fish in Sicily - the swordfish is represented by huge specimens. During the day, you can go to the Cathedral of St. Agatha or take a walk in the small park Giardini Bellini. In general, there are few sights in the city and all of them can be fit in one day.
