Daily Market Commentary : 16th March. 2017

Share markets in India finished on a firm note as the Federal Reserve raised the benchmark interest rate by a quarter percentage point, but gave a more dovish outlook for future hikes.

NSE Nifty closed at it all time closing high of 9153 levels, up by 68 points or 0.7%, while BSE Sensex closed at 29586 levels, up by 187 points or 0.6%.

Asian stock markets finished broadly higher today with shares in Hong Kong leading the region. The Hang Seng is up 2.08% while China’s Shanghai Composite is up 0.84% and Japan’s Nikkei 225 is up 0.07%. European markets are broadly higher today with shares in Germany leading the region. The DAX is up 1.09% while London’s FTSE 100 is up 0.94% and France’s CAC 40 is up 0.81%.

HDFC, Infosys, L&T were the top contributors to Nifty index gains lifting it to higher levels.

Nifty, Nifty Bank and Nifty Midcap ended at record closing highs on Thursday. Whereas, Sensex closed 96 points away from its record closing high of 29682. All the sectoral indices closed in green, Nifty Metal being the top gainer.

Adani Ports was the top Nifty gainer whereas, Bharti Airtel was the top Nifty loser in Thursday’s trading session.

The BSE Mid-cap Index closed up 1.5% at 13912 whereas, BSE Small-cap Index closed up 1% at 14006.

APL Apollo Tubes soared over 5% as the company announced partnership with NEXTracker, hitting a 52-week high of Rs 1149.10.

Ashoka Buildcon soared over 7% hitting a 52-week high of Rs 199.65 per share. The stocks closed at Rs 196 up by Rs 10 per share or 5%.

Pennar Engineeered jumped over 11% as the company bagged order an order worth Rs 152 crore. The stock closed at Rs 130 up by Rs 10 per share or 8%.

HCL Tech rallied over 5% as the company is considering buyback of its shares on March 20. The stocks closed at Rs 53 up by Rs 1 or 2%.

Power Mech Projects closed at Rs 480 per share, up by Rs 80 per share or 20%.

Dredging Corporation closed at Rs 104 per share, up by Rs 104 per share or nearly 20%.

Jindal Poly closed at Rs 423 per share, up by Rs 69 per share or nearly 19.6%.

High Ground Enterprises closed at Rs 25 per share, up by Rs 3 per share or 15%.

While, on the NSE advance decline ratio was at 5:2. There were 1149 advances, 482 declines and 288 unchanged stocks on NSE, reflecting bullish undertone floating in the market.

The rupee was trading at 65.14 per US dollar.

Share markets in India finished flat as the sentiment turned tepid ahead of the outcome of the US Federal Reserve’s meeting later in the day.

NSE Nifty closed at 9084 levels, down by 2 points or 0.02%, while BSE Sensex closed at 29398 levels, down by 44 points or 0.15%.

Asian stock markets finished mixed as of the most recent closing prices. The Shanghai Composite gained 0.08%, while the Nikkei 225 & the Hang Seng fell 0.16% and 0.15% respectively. European markets are higher today with shares in London leading the region. The FTSE 100 is up 0.30% while Germany’s DAX is up 0.13% and France’s CAC 40 is up 0.10%.

Idea was the top Nifty gainer whereas, TCS was the top Nifty loser in Wednesday’s trading session.

The BSE Mid-cap Index closed up 1% at 13700 whereas, BSE Small-cap Index closed up 0.6% at 13858.

IT stocks underperformed broader markets and was the top losing index on the BSE on Wednesday.

Infosys contributed nearly 50% to the BSE IT index downfall dragging the index to its lows. The stock closed at Rs 1011 per share up by Rs 23 per share or 2.2%.

Among the Telecom stocks Idea was the top buzzing stock in morning trade and was up by nearly 10%. The stock closed at Rs 113 per share up by Rs 10 per share or 9.9%.

Tyre stock, MRF was gaining ground in lunch hours closing at Rs 57100 per share up by Rs 4 per share or 7.7%.

Godfrey Phillips closed at Rs 1266 per share, up by Rs 189 per share or 17%.

GTL Infra closed at Rs 6 per share, up by Rs 0.7 per share or nearly 13%.

Kirloskar Electric Company closed at Rs 41 per share, up by Rs 4 per share or nearly 13%.

Kolte Patil Developers closed at Rs 137 per share, up by Rs 16 per share or 13%.

There were 846 advances, 783 declines and 294 unchanged stocks on NSE, reflecting bearish undertone floating in the market.

The rupee was trading at 65.68 per US dollar.

Dull End to the Week; IT Stocks lead. The market closed flat ahead of the key results to assembly elections. Investors had reacted positively to the exit polls in the morning session, but trimmed their gains through the day.

NSE Nifty closed at 8934 levels, up by 7 points or 0.08%, while BSE Sensex closed at 28946 levels, up by 17 points or 0.06%.

Asian stock markets finished mixed as of the most recent closing prices. The Nikkei 225 gained 1.48% and the Hang Seng rose 0.29%. The Shanghai Composite lost 0.12%. European markets are higher today with shares in France leading the region. The CAC 40 is up 0.49% while Germany’s DAX is up 0.48% and London’s FTSE 100 is up 0.39%.

Bosch Limited was the top Nifty gainer whereas, Tech Mahindra was the top Nifty loser in Friday’s trading session.

The BSE Mid-cap Index closed down 0.3% at 13353 whereas, BSE Small-cap Index closed down 0.2% at 13588.

IT stocks were rallying on bourses, Infosys alone contributing almost 80% to the BSE IT index gains. Infosys closed at Rs 1021 per share up by Rs 9 per share or 0.9%

Alembic Pharma rallied on bourses and gained over 6% on Friday. The stock clos trading at Rs 623 per share up by Rs 21 or 3.6%.

Career Point during Friday’s trade gained over 6% and the stock closed trading at Rs 111 per share up by Rs 0.1 per share or 0.1%.

T D Power Systems closed at Rs 171 per share, up by Rs11 per share or 7%.

Brigade closed at Rs 210 per share, up by Rs 11 per share or nearly 5%.

PVR closed at Rs 1424 per share, up by Rs 76 per share or nearly 5%.

Lycos Internet closed at Rs 9 per share, up by Rs 0.4 per share or 5%.

There were 614 advances, 998 declines and 311 unchanged stocks on NSE, reflecting bearish undertone floating in the market.

The rupee was trading at 66.60 per US dollar.
