Daily Market Commentary : 8th Feb. 2017

Benchmark indices ended rangebound session on a flat note after the RBI maintained status quo and changed policy stance to neutral from accommodative.

NSE Nifty closed in gained 0.75 points at 8769.05, while BSE Sensex was down 45.24 points at 28289.92.

Sensex plunged to a low of 28149.08, down by 186.08 points and closed at 28289.92 levels, down by 45.24 points.

BSE Energy closed up by 0.44%, BSE Fast Moving Consumer Goods closed down by 0.54%, BSE Healthcare closed down by 0.34%. BSE IT closed flat, down by 0.04%. BSE Telecom Index closed up by 0.73%.

BSE Consumer Durables was the biggest gainer among the sectoral indices, recording gains of almost 2.63%.

BSE Oil & Gas closed up by 0.85% and BSE Realty closed up by 1.22%.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited closed at Rs 156.80 per share, up by Rs 4.70 per share or 3.09%.

Bharti Infratel Limited closed at Rs 310 per share, up by Rs 8.70 per share or 2.89%.

Titan Company Limited closed at Rs 422.60 per share, up by 7.41%.

LT Foods Limited closed at Rs 60.90 per share, up by Rs 10.15 per share or 20%.

Indiabulls Ventures Limited closed at Rs 28.45 per share, up by Rs 4.70 per share or 19.79%.

Kopran closed in green at Rs 70.40 per share, up by Rs 8.50 or 13.73%

The broader markets outperformed, with the BSE Midcap index rising 0.5 percent. About 1509 shares advanced against 1365 declining shares on the exchange.

The rupee was trading at 67.18 per US dollar.

Daily Market Commentary : 30th Jan. 2017

Share markets in India finished the trading day on a flat note after four straight sessions of gains due to caution ahead of the budget.

The day started with Nifty opening down by 5.70 points and Sensex opening down by 15.66 points respectively. BSE Mid-cap and Small-cap indices opened with minor gains of 3.99 points and 6.68 points respectively.

NSE Nifty closing flat at 8635.55 level, down by 5.6 points or 0.06%, while BSE Sensex closed at 27849.56 levels down by 32.90 points or 0.12%.

Asian markets finished mixed as of the most recent closing prices. The Shanghai Composite gained 0.31%, while the Nikkei 225 & the Hang Seng fell 0.51% and 0.06% respectively. European markets are lower today with shares in France off the most. The CAC 40 is down 0.95% while London’s FTSE 100 is off 0.74% and Germany’s DAX is lower by 0.61%.

Telecom stocks gained the most based on confirmation by Vodafone about merger talks with Idea Cellular. Telecom stocks gained as the merger between two of the largest telecom players augurs well for the industry profitability and structure. Reliance Communications closed up by 11.33%; Idea closed up by 26.54%; and Bharti Airtel closed up by 7.36%.

IT stocks continued to be under pressure. Nifty IT closed in red at 10170.65 levels, down by 11.20 points or 0.11%. Heavyweight player from the IT bunch, TCS closed at Rs 2338.85 per share, down by Rs 18.95 per share or 0.80%.

Reliance Industries closed up by 2.01%; Asian Paints closed up by 0.71%; Sun Pharma closed up by 0.66%; and Infosys closed up by 0.52%

Tata Motors along with Tata Steel were the biggest losers, contributing most to the Sensex downfall.

ONGC, SBI and Hero MotoCorp lost more than 1% each in Monday’s trading session.

HDFC share price finished down by 0.4% on the BSE after the company

The rupee was trading at 67.94 per US dollar.

Out of 50 stocks in Nifty 50 index, 18 stocks advanced and 33 stocks declined.

After opening the day in the green, the Indian share markets have continued to trade strong and are currently trading above the dotted line. With the exception of stocks in the FMCG sector all sectoral indices are trading on a positive note. Stocks in the Power sector and the banking sector are leading the gains.

NSE Nifty was up 38.50 points or 0.4 percent at 8641.25, while BSE Sensex closed up 174.32 points or 0.6 percent at 27882.46.

Fertiliser stocks fell in the last hour of the trading. L&T fell in the last hour of the trading dragging the major indices down. FMCG major, ITC dragged the indices taking cues from its poor Q3 results.

Bank stocks were the leaders in today’s market with ICICI Bank leading the way. NIFTY Bank closed at 19707.6 levels, up by 1.2%.

ICICI Bank closed up by 4.6%, BoB closed up by 3.58%, PNB up by 3% and SBI up by 2.76%.

Kotak Mahindra Bank closed down by 1.34%, IndusInd Bank down by 0.91% and Yes Bank closed down by 0.49% on Friday.

NTPC: – NTPC soars, as it raises 500 million through euro denominated bonds. This would be the longest Euro denominated bond ever by any Indian company. NTPC has already got almost five times of the stipulated issue size, the bids being nearly 2.4 billion euros. The issue saw investments from 125 different investors across the globe.

ICICI Bank: – The private bank saw OI spurt by more than 34% even as the prices rose more than 5%, and this indicates fresh longs built.

Bank Nifty: – The Bank index has seen OI spurt by more than 34% on Friday, thus indicating fresh long positions.

IDEA & Bharti Airtel: – The two telecom stocks show traction on Friday with both the stocks closing at close to their day’s highs.

Symphony: – A sharp surge was seen in the stock by up to 15% in the last half hour of the trade on Friday.

The rupee was trading at 68.03 per US dollar.

About 1401 shares have advanced, 1387 shares declined, and 288 shares are unchanged.
