Daily Market Commentary : 25th August 2016

Nifty closed with a loss of 58 points at 8,592, while BSE Sensex ended with aloss of 224 points at 27,836.

Titagarh Wagons Ltd is currently trading at Rs. 113.3, up by Rs. 4.3 or 3.94% from its previous closing of Rs. 109 on the BSE. The company has announced that it has received Abbreviated New Drug Application final approval for Felodipine Extended-Release Tablets USP, 2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg, the generic version of Plendil Tablets of AstraZeneca, which is used for the treatment of hypertension.

Natco Pharma jumped 6.2% to Rs.696. The company announced receipt of successful Establishment Inspection Report (EIR) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the inspection conducted, during the period February 8 – February 12, 2016, at its Chemical Division, Chennai, India (named NATCO Organics Limited, prior to amalgamation into the company).

AstraZeneca Pharma tanked 6.6% to Rs.1065 on BSE after it receives a notice of termination of its distribution pact for meropenem from its U.K. parent. This is part of the AstraZeneca PLC’s deal to sell its antibiotics business to Pfizer.

TV Today Network gained 2% after the company has entered into an Advertising Sales Agreement with Entertainment Network, effective from 1st September, 2016, duly approved by the Board of TVTN through circulation on 24th August, 2016 in relation to TVTN’s 3 private FM radio stations at New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

Lupin inched up 0.34% on BSE. The pharma company said its subsidiary Gavis Pharmaceuticals has received approval from the US health regulator to market generic linezolid tablets used for treating bacterial infection in the American market.

IDBI Bank is marginally down at Rs.71.80. The bank will raise Rs.1,500 crore by issuing tier I bonds. The bank said it will allot the bonds on August 30, 2016.

Ramco Systems soared 7% after the company has informed BSE that company’s subsidiary, Ramco Systems Pte Ltd., Singapore, has secured order from one of the top 5 most valuable global brands for Ramco HCM & Payroll in APAC.

Asian markets are trading mixed. Nikkei 225 is trading in red, while Shanghai Composite and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng are trading lower. Market-wide rollovers to the September F&O series were above average while rollovers for Nifty futures so far have been much higher than the past three series.

Few global developments like North Korea testing another missile and Turkey launching attacks on Syria have once again brought in the tension factor.

Wall Street closed lower on Wednesday. The Dow Jones industrial average closed 0.35% lower, at 18,481.48. The S&P 500 fell 0.52% and the Nasdaq dropped 0.81%, to 5,217.69.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved nine projects worth about Rs.24,000 crore in nine states for expansion of railway network and connectivity across the country. The Union cabinet on Wednesday approved a revised India-Cyprus tax treaty that seeks to plug loopholes used by investors to avoid paying taxes in India.

BSNL announced a national unlimited 3G mobile data plan for Rs.1,099 and doubled the data usage limit in some existing plans.

USDINR trading higher by two paise at 67.08 against US Dollar.

Out of 1,851 stocks traded on the NSE, 913 declined, 657 advanced and 281 remained unchanged today.

The rupee was trading down five paise at 67.10 per US dollar.

Daily Market Commentary : 24th August 2016

The Indian stock market swung between gains and losses and closed higher for the second consecutive session. Volatility continued ahead of expiry of August futures & options contracts. Oil and Gas, pharma, energy, power, IT and realty stocks led from the front, while telecom, metal and capital goods index were among the major loser. Market participants were a bit jittery ahead of the Fed chair Janet Yellen speech at the Jackson Hole in US later this week. Nifty closed with a gain of 18 points at 8,650.30, while BSE Sensex ended with a gain of 70 points at 28,060.

On the global front, Asian stocks edged lower on Wednesday while oil prices slipped after a surprise jump in US inventories. Japan’s Nikkei advanced 0.60%. China’s Shanghai Composite ended marginally lower, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng slipped 0.78%.

European stocks were trading mixed. The FTSE 100 is marginally down 0.21%. The CAC 40 and DAX gained 0.5% each.

Aurobindo Pharma jumped 7% to Rs.787 after the pharma company reported a 23.8% rise in consolidated net profit to Rs.584.96 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2016, mainly on account of robust sales.

Lupin dropped 2.2% to Rs.1,521. The company received final approval for its Linezolid Tablets, 600 mg from the USFDA to market a generic equivalent of Pharmacia & Upjohn Company’s Zyvox Tablets, 600 mg.

JK Tyre climbed 12.5% to Rs.125 on BSE. The company is planning to set up a new R&D centre of excellence in Mysuru. In this regard, the company will invest Rs 100 crore. It will initially have about 200 engineers and scientists and the number will double during the next one year.

MOIL rallied 5.3% on BSE after the company executed the Mining lease over 76.409 Ha. land granted by Government of Madhya Pradesh in the village Bharweli-Awalajhari, Tehsil & Dist.Balaghat of Madhya Pradesh.

Castrol India gained 2.2% to Rs.426 on the BSE. The company is selling up to $261 million stake in Castrol India Ltd in a block trade on Wednesday, according to media reports.

Majesco soared 7% to Rs.519. Majesco and Elafris announce strategic partnership Source text for Eikon to enhance insurers’ customer communication and payment experience.

Engineers India soared 8.3% to Rs.251. The company reported 50% growth in the net profit to Rs.80.3 crore for the quarter ended June 30 compared with Rs.53.50 crore reported in the year-ago period.

Jai Corp declined 3.2% to Rs.75. The company reported 41.7% fall in net profit to Rs.6 crore for the quarter ended June 30 compared with Rs.10.3 crore reported in the year-ago period.

USDINR trading down five paise at 67.10 per US dollar.

Out of 1,417 stocks traded on the NSE, 547 declined and 801 advanced today.

The rupee was trading down five paise at 67.10 per US dollar.

Daily Market Commentary : 23rd August 2016

After falling for past two trading sessions, the Indian stock market closed on a flat note on Tuesday. Market participants were also jittery as the speech by Fed chair Janet Yellen at an annual summer gathering in Jackson Hole was awaited, for indications of how policymakers view the interest rates outlook and ahead of the expiry of the derivative contracts on Thursday. Nifty closed with a gain of three points at 8,632, while BSE Sensex ended with a gain of mere five points at 27,990.

On the global front, Asian stocks closed on a mixed trend. Oil prices fell for a second straight session on supply concerns. Japan’s Nikkei slipped 0.61%. China’s Shanghai Composite and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng ended marginally higher.

European stocks edged higher after the latest data showed that eurozone’s economic recovery gained speed in August. The FTSE 100 was trading inched up 0.5%. The CAC 40 and DAX gained 0.87% each.

Tata Power Company tumbled 3.2% to Rs.74 on the BSE. The company has posted a net profit after taxes, minority interest and share of profit of associates of Rs.72.5 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 as compared to Rs.303 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2015.

HPCL dropped 5.3% after the company has posted a net profit of Rs.2,098 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 as compared to Rs.1614.1 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2015.

Welspun India closed lower for the second consecutive session after Bloomberg reports said Target Corp is ending all business with Welspun India Ltd, one of the world’s biggest textile manufacturers, after saying the supplier was sending it phony Egyptian cotton sheets. Welspun India Ltd hit 20% lower circuit for the second day to end at Rs.65.85 on BSE.

Shriram EPC jumped 10.6% to Rs.24 after it said that the company through its 100% subsidiary, Shriram EPC FZE, Sharjah has been awarded an overseas contract for an amount of $230 million (around Rs.1530 crore).

Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd dipped 3.5% to Rs.16.35 after the company said its net profit for the June quarter fell 58% to Rs.46.18 crore against Rs.109.40 crore a year ago. Net sales fell 20% to Rs.503.99 crore.

Hotel Leelaventure Ltd climbed 3% to Rs.18.35 after the company said in a notice to BSE that it has sought shareholder approval to sell its properties The Leela Palace Delhi and The Leela Palace Chennai to pare debt.

NTPC Ltd skid 3% to Rs.159. The company has posted a net profit of Rs.2369.5 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 as compared to Rs.2276.5 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2015. The company to raise funds upto Rs.15,000 crore through issue of Bonds/Debentures on Private Placement basis.

Allcargo Logistics Ltd fell 3% to Rs.189. The company reported 11.8% decline in its net profit to Rs.28.30 crore in June quarter against Rs.32.07 crore a year ago. Total income rose 0.5% to Rs.306.15 crore.

MEP Infrastructure Developers Ltd rose 3.8% to Rs.44. The company has received the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) dated 22 August 2016 from National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) informing that MEP has been engaged as the Contractor for the Project of “Collection of user fee through Fee Collection Agency on the basis of competitive bidding through (e-tender) for Ghangari at 346.100km (Gorhar to Barwa Adda) from 320km-398.750km of National Highway No. 2 in the State of Jharkhand.

USDINR trading up nine paise at 67.09 per US dollar.

Out of 1,400 stocks traded on the NSE, 721 declined and 622 advanced today.
