Currency Certification or Currency Derivatives Certification is given through a test series in NISM for NISM certification. The test aims to create a benchmark of common minimum knowledge for professionals working in the Currency Derivatives market. It seeks to arm professionals with a better understanding of currency markets and exchange traded currency future products, ensure quality service to investor, enhance efficiency in operational process and minimise risks.
The NISM currency derivatives certification seeks to ensure a basic understanding of the various aspects of the currency futures products, the process flow involved in trading, clearing and settlement of currency futures products and the regulatory environment under which the market operates.
The measurement purpose of the examination is to determine whether or not a candidate has attained a minimum level of competency/ proficiency required to participate in the currency derivatives market.
The NISM certification test tries to ensure the following objectives for successful candidates:
- Basic knowledge of currency markets.
- Specific knowledge of Exchange Traded Currency Futures markets.
- Understand the trading, clearing and settlement mechanisms related to Currency Futures markets.
- Understand basic investment strategies that use currency futures products.

The NISM Currency Derivatives Examination is of 100 marks, has 60 questions, and must be completed in 120 minutes. There is negative marking of 25% of marks assigned to a question. The passing score for the examination is 60% and the certificate is valid for 3 years.
